We are happy to announce that we have received authorization from one of our associates, Professor Emeritus Bob Smith, to post recordings of his leading-edge research presentations in our library! We recorded them at meetings of The Institute of Noetic Sciences™, (founded in 1973 by Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell), over the last three years.
The IONS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research, education, and membership organization. Their mission is to support "individual and collective transformation through consciousness research, educational outreach, and engaging a global learning community in the realization of our human potential".
Robert E. Smith is Professor Emeritus of the Department of Human Physiology, School of Medicine, University of California at Davis. He is President Emeritus of the Traditional Chinese Medical College of Hawaii. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Honolulu, Hawaii, where he is the Chair of the Institute’s Advisory Board.
Dr. Smith received his undergraduate education at the California Institute of Technology, receiving his B.S. degree in Engineering. His graduate work was at the University of Washington, where he received his Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics. He is the author of 72 scientific publications, two general publications, and two books. He is a member or past member of many scientific and professional organizations.
Professor Smith is currently writing a textbook on the history of medicine, recounting the history of Western scientific medicine and its divergence from the approach of traditional medicines, also describing the recent developments in physics that are bringing the two together again. An important part of this divergence and now re-convergence is the recognition of the psychological and spiritual influences on health and disease, and on the healing influences long-recognized by traditional medicines but neglected by a medicine focused on the body as a biochemical-mechanical machine.
